Episode 1 – Hikari・Kei

Hikari Hanazono, the main character, has always been second to Kei Takishima. While Hikari considers Kei a rival and somewhat of a friend, Kei loves Hikari. Everyone knows this, but she is too dense to notice. Their wrestling loving fathers first introduced them to one another when they were 6 years old. Assuming that she was the best in wrestling, young Hikari challenged Kei to a wrestling match only to be thoroughly defeated by him. Ever since that fateful incident, Hikari swore to beat Kei in school grades, a sporting event – anything. To do this she has enrolled in the same school as Kei since elementary. Now she attends Hakusenkan, an ultra elite school, that costs her carpenter father a lot of money. Hikari and Kei are the top two students in the school, with Kei holding firmly to that number one position

Basically, this is a comedy romance anime.

I feel somewhat dissapointed with the first episode though. I had such high hopes for this anime and I felt that it did not really meet the expectations that I had had for it.
One major reason could be because the “trailer” for S.A. was basically the first episode itself.

This anime revolves around hikari’s and kei’s competition and romance life as well as S.A. the class that they are in.
I would say that while the first episode manages to establish what is necessary the comedic moments took the limelight.
Everything was turned into a funny moment. Which I found to be quite fun to watch.

However (as I have not read the manga before), I feel like there does not look light it would be a painful anime to watch. It looks rather lighthearted and fun. I just hope that it stays that way without complications that make it too heavy to watch.

Overall, it is a pretty fun anime to watch. It is good, but not great. I like it, not love it.

But seeing that I was anticipating this anime more than Vampire Knight, yet Vampire Knight seem to have brought more to the table in the first ep, I feel somewhat upset right now.. T_T

Lets hope that episode 2 would be a great one!

Vampire Knight – 01

Episode 1 – Vampire Night

Yuki’s earliest memory is of a stormy night in winter, wherein she was attacked by a vampire… And then rescued by another. Now 10 years later, Yuki Cross, the adapted daughter of the headmaster of Cross Academy, has grown up and become a guardian of the vampire race, protecting her savior, Kaname, from discovery as he leads a group of vampires at the elite boarding school. But also at her side is Zero Kiryu, a childhood friend who’s hatred for the creatures that destroyed everything he held dear, is now determined never to trust them. This coexisting arrangement seems all well and good, but have the vampires truly renounced their murderous ways, or is there a darker truth behind their actions. Is Kaname’s infatuation with Yuki the beginning of a forbidden romance, or is it something in her forgotten past that draws him to her. Because in this world of secrets, nothing is as it seems. And the price of misplaced trust may even be worse than death.

Oh my god!!! WOOHOO!! An anime to love!

Romance
Beautiful characters
Nice animation
Mystery
Darkness
Comedy

This is definitely a good anime that you would want to catch.
Do not be deceived by the fact that it is a from a Shojo manga.
Sure, from the first episode it seems fully shojo without action in it. But a good anime does not necessarily need action does it? Besides, there are vampires in it! That ought to spice things up right?

Beautiful characters

And many comic relief moments here and there.

This episode is basically the plot builder. You are introduced to the characters and the way things work in that world. (refer to the summary above).
This could have easily been a flop, and would have made many fans of the manga upset. Many are already saying that the characters look good but not as good as that in the manga. Well, who can blame them, the manga character designs are really pretty. But personally I feel that the anime is done really nicely.

Instead of nonstop staring and pauses all over the place, this one dives straight into the issue and explains everything to you. The last few moments of the episode cleverly makes you want more. (I know that it made me want to pull my hair out knowing that I would have to wait for a week before being able to see the next episode.)

The humor in the anime is nice and light and it does not spoil the whole ambiance of the anime, it actually fits in quite well.

I was anticipating this series until I saw the trailer and wanted to give up hope on watching this series. But boy was I lucky that I did not do that.

The opening song was really cool and nice.
Futatsu no Kodou to Akai Tsumi – ON/OFF
It suits the mode of this anime while sounding nice.

The ED however was really freaky.
The music was ok, but it was the animation that freaked me out.
The girl sitting there like a lifeless doll with blood flowing out of her eyes and everywhere. ECK!
I don’t know if I should say that it is cool or ecky.

Bottom line, the first episode makes you want to come back for more.

Give it a shot, it is one of the better ones this season.

And if that is not enough to make you believe me, just look at the number of fansub groups subbing this series:

Conclave & Diffusion, Shoku-dan, Ureshii, Animanda, Orange-Side Fansubs/VK Scans, Mishicorp

It is the only series this season with that many fansub groups subbing one series. ;)
