Episode 7 – Teasing Kiss

Itazura na Kiss is basically about the prank kiss right? Or as they translated the name into enligish it becomes ‘It Started With A Kiss’ (somehow or other).

If that is the way we see the title then this episode would be where things finally start to get fun. Why?

Because this is where their 1st kiss starts. Yes! The first kiss between Irie and Kotoko.

I am loving this series. I started out not liking it and being dissapointed, but the characters are just so adorable, both Kotoko and Irie. The anime is much better than the live dramas and the characters are not as irritating, except for maybe dear Kinosuke.

This episode is basically about the graduation of Kotoko and Irie and we see a full out battle against one another towards the end of the ep where they are having class parties. The A class VS the F class, and of course it is Naoki VS Kotoko. Naoki basically humiliates Kotoko by ridiculing her feelings (and acting like a jerk) and Kotoko makes a comeback with taking out a picture of Naoki dressed as a girl when he was a kid! Of course Naoki gets pissed and drags Kotoko away and this is where Kotoko says that she is finally going to find the resolve to forget about Naoki and stop loving him.

This is when the kiss happens and Naoki leaves, sticks his tongue out at her and says “serves you right” to a stunned Kotoko.

Poor girl. But it was fun to watch.

Naoki’s character has progressed quite a bit and now he is starting to show emotions and is no longer the robotic ass that he once was (he still is an ass though).

One thing that leaves me feeling slightly unhappy about this series is the animation. The dreaming and blurry edges and colors are alright after awhile, but the faces of the characters (especially the eyes) can get quite weird at times. The eyes are at times not drawn properly and that makes the face look very very strange.

The OP grows on you too. After listening to it a few times, the 70s like groove grows on you and next thing you know you are feeling all perky listening to that music wanting to don an afro and dance to the beat.

The plot progression per ep is fast without wasted time. Sure, it might be the same thing happening over and over again, but it is fun to watch them under different circumstances. And it is a good thing to know that every ep represents a new development in the relationship between Kotoko and Naoki.
