Rurounin Kenshin Live Action Film out in 2012

22 year old Sato Takeru will be acting as the protagonist Himura Kenshin, acting opposite him is Takai Emi as Kamiya Kaoru.

The Sankei Sports newspaper adds that the staff aims to release the film internationally and eventually make a series. This will be the first live-action adaptation of the manga.

“Producer Shinzō Matsuhashi commented, “Satoh has the looks and stature to be a proper Kenshin.” Watsuki added that when this project was just starting, he and his wife were discussing who should play Kenshin, and decided that Satoh topped the list.

Satoh himself said that he was a huge fan of the original manga when he was in elementary school and when the manga was still running. “It was the manga that everyone in my generation knew.” He added that he and his friends would play around by pretending to sword-fight. Satoh began intensive training in sword-fighting earlier this month, and filming will begin in July.” – ANN

It has been a long time since I last saw the Kenshin anime but I hope that they will do a good job in filming this show because I loved the series and I don’t want to see it destroyed. Since it is going to be a movie I guess the budget will be bigger so I would assume that the quality will be high, but once it becomes a TV Series, I hope that the quality does not drop off.

Also green-lit is the new anime series of Rurouni Kenshin.

For now, there seems to be a few manga to live-action series and re-make/revisit anime series to look forward to – Ouran (Drama), Skip Beat!(Drama), Kenshin(Drama/Anime) and Hunter x Hunter (Anime). Are there others that I am missing out on?

-ra out!
