Vampire Knight – 03

Ooo, an interesting episode.

Episode 3 – Fang of Repentence

Revelations in this episode:
Yuki finally finds out the truth behind who Zero is.
We are introduced to Class E vampires.
We learn of Yuki’s fear of going out alone, and while she is out she is attacked by Class E vampires.
Kaname saves Yuki and states that Yuki is his special person.

I liked the way this episode progressed, it was fast with little wasted time. Yuki finally finds out about Zero and Zero attacks Yuki. This was a pretty dark episode. Kaname’s show of his power was really cool too, and as usual the OP sequence was just hypnotic.

I like Zero’s character – the twist that he is actually a vamp. I thought that was pretty cool.
As for Yuki, I can’t seem to see her other than a loud girl who starting to get on my nerves just a little. I know that there are more things about who she is etc (in the manga) but right now, in this episode, all we know about her is the same flashback over and over again of her being attacked by the vamp when she was young and Kaname saving her.
Kaname on the other hand is a mystery. One moment I like the him when he is all overprotective over Yuki, but when he starts getting all high and mighty(in a subtle way) I can’t help but like Zero better.

The animation was nice but for some reason due to the way the shadows were drawn on the character’s faces they looked like anorexic zombies. I am looking forward to the next episode to see how Yuki handle’s this new revelation that she has just been dealt with.

Overall, it was intersting, the plot thickens and builds with a good portion of suspense. Enough action to make it less shoujo-ish and more interesting.
I was reluctant to watch and review this episode because for some reason every episode was so heavy to watch. Nothing happy happens. EVER. And judging from the way the plot is progressing i doubt that happy things will ever happen.
This anime is nothing if not filled with mysteries and secrets. I LOVE IT!

Vampire Knight – 02

Episode 2 – Memories of Blood

As the plot continues to progress, Zero’s conditions gets worst, it is Valentine’s day in the world of Vampire Knight and Yuki is still oblivious to what is happening to Zero.
Just as the previous episode, Yuki is still ga-ga over Kaname and has decided to make chocos for him for v-day.
Zero on the other hand is having a harder time than ever trying to stop himself from biting into Yuki’s ever-so-delicious neck.
We also get to see a snippet of Zero’s past when he first meets Yuki.
Zero is getting agitated and impatient and openly spoke back to Kaname, and thus angering the other vamps causing an ‘almost’ fight.
Most importantly, Zero’s body seems to be rejecting the blood pills.

Overall

The animation quality was alright and nice to watch however, the flow of this episode seems to be pretty choppy.

They tried inserting some comedic moments to lighten up the turning-very-quickly-heavy mood, but that in turn made it so out of place. The whole story about the V-day choco was also pretty useless, i would have felt better if they had not spent that much time on it.

No action, awww, how disappointing. I know that it is a shoujo series as action is not the main deal but the fact that just because Yuki jumped in to stop the fight (and they did stop) got be quite irritated.

Overall, it was still a good episode, though not as good as the first episode.
Personally, i would definitely watch on.

Oh, and the OP is just pure love! I am so addicted to it!

Episode 3 review

Vampire Knight – 01

Episode 1 – Vampire Night

Yuki’s earliest memory is of a stormy night in winter, wherein she was attacked by a vampire… And then rescued by another. Now 10 years later, Yuki Cross, the adapted daughter of the headmaster of Cross Academy, has grown up and become a guardian of the vampire race, protecting her savior, Kaname, from discovery as he leads a group of vampires at the elite boarding school. But also at her side is Zero Kiryu, a childhood friend who’s hatred for the creatures that destroyed everything he held dear, is now determined never to trust them. This coexisting arrangement seems all well and good, but have the vampires truly renounced their murderous ways, or is there a darker truth behind their actions. Is Kaname’s infatuation with Yuki the beginning of a forbidden romance, or is it something in her forgotten past that draws him to her. Because in this world of secrets, nothing is as it seems. And the price of misplaced trust may even be worse than death.

Oh my god!!! WOOHOO!! An anime to love!

Romance
Beautiful characters
Nice animation
Mystery
Darkness
Comedy

This is definitely a good anime that you would want to catch.
Do not be deceived by the fact that it is a from a Shojo manga.
Sure, from the first episode it seems fully shojo without action in it. But a good anime does not necessarily need action does it? Besides, there are vampires in it! That ought to spice things up right?

Beautiful characters

And many comic relief moments here and there.

This episode is basically the plot builder. You are introduced to the characters and the way things work in that world. (refer to the summary above).
This could have easily been a flop, and would have made many fans of the manga upset. Many are already saying that the characters look good but not as good as that in the manga. Well, who can blame them, the manga character designs are really pretty. But personally I feel that the anime is done really nicely.

Instead of nonstop staring and pauses all over the place, this one dives straight into the issue and explains everything to you. The last few moments of the episode cleverly makes you want more. (I know that it made me want to pull my hair out knowing that I would have to wait for a week before being able to see the next episode.)

The humor in the anime is nice and light and it does not spoil the whole ambiance of the anime, it actually fits in quite well.

I was anticipating this series until I saw the trailer and wanted to give up hope on watching this series. But boy was I lucky that I did not do that.

The opening song was really cool and nice.
Futatsu no Kodou to Akai Tsumi – ON/OFF
It suits the mode of this anime while sounding nice.

The ED however was really freaky.
The music was ok, but it was the animation that freaked me out.
The girl sitting there like a lifeless doll with blood flowing out of her eyes and everywhere. ECK!
I don’t know if I should say that it is cool or ecky.

Bottom line, the first episode makes you want to come back for more.

Give it a shot, it is one of the better ones this season.

And if that is not enough to make you believe me, just look at the number of fansub groups subbing this series:

Conclave & Diffusion, Shoku-dan, Ureshii, Animanda, Orange-Side Fansubs/VK Scans, Mishicorp

It is the only series this season with that many fansub groups subbing one series. 😉
