Shingeki No Bahamut: Genesis – 10-12 Review

[C12] Shingeki no Bahamut - Genesis - 12.mp4 - 00002Shingeki no Bahamut really knows how to sell its epic fantasy.

This series was my favorite of the season. It wasn’t quite as good as Mushishi but it was always entertaining to watch. Maybe there will be a second season. Although I have no idea what a sequel to this would even look like. It’s not like this series absolutely needs a sequel. After all, there’s always the danger of the sequel being like Psycho-Pass 2.

Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis – 04 Review

_C12__Shingeki_no_Bahamut_-_Genesis_-_04.mp4 - 00000I like how Favaro’s biggest problem isn’t the dangerous situations he finds himself in time and time again but how he can continue to conceal from Amira that he has no idea where Helheim is and how to get there.

The one thing that still boggles my mind about this series and Garo are that they are both adaptations. Usually with animes, stuff like mangas and visual novels get adapted and animes seldom diverge from their source-material in a radical fashion. With mangas it’s even less about creating a good anime but rather it’s all about creating animated promotion for the ongoing manga-series it’s based on. And I feel like that the anime-original endings have become less radical in recent years. Less and less it’s impossible to say that the anime does something completely different from what the manga is doing after the point where the anime ended. And so we have Garo and Shingeki no Bahamut where the creators of the source-material are seemingly okay with telling the creators of the anime to just do what they want. I know that a lot of people would like to see the animated version of the manga they’ve actually read rather than a warped version based on what some director or producer got out of it. But if you’ve got a bunch of people working on an anime-adaptation, personally I would be more interested in seeing what they would do with the source-material without being obliged to stay faithful to it.

Review-Roundup: Garo – The Animation 01-03, Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis 01-03, Akatsuki no Yona 03

[C12] Shingeki no Bahamut - Genesis - 02.mp4 - 00001Favaro as he finds out he’s been forced to become a part of a ronin-demon’s personal quest and the consequences it brings with it.

This time, I review:

Garo 01-03: These days living is a shitty thing to do for servants of Makai. With a demon-supporter continuously having the ear of a weak, aging king, all those whose job it is to hunt down and kill demons are now turned into public enemies. Naturally, there’s some emo-teenager who has a big role to play in the fate of that kingdom. Luckily, though, he’s surrounded by a lot of more interesting people.

Shingeki no Bahamut 01-03: Favaro didn’t want to be a hero, in fact, he didn’t want to be anything. What he wanted… well, actually, it didn’t really matter what he wanted because he was rather forcibly dragged into a foolish quest of some demon-girl to go to Helheim. Also, he has a rival who might as well be his best friend.

Akatsuki no Yona 03: Apparently the best way to spend your childhood is to sow the seeds for a love-triangle. Also… thank God for snakes! How else would you want to create drama in the middle of nowhere?
