Okay, he blocks a giant sword with a punch and the only thing that got damaged by the impact is the street – and his shoes?! Why are his shoes the only thing that got damaged? And also: What the hell happened to his socks…?

Symphogear 03 – J-Pop Kills Alien-Goo

Watching this episode I asked myself how the strongest character on the good side wouldn’t fight against the Alien-Goo? Genjuro, the commander of the 2nd Division (what actually happened to the 1st one?) is apparently stronger than Kanade and Tsubasa combined but then it hit me… There are actually three convincing reasons why he’s just a commander and not doing anything directly against the Noise: 1. He’s older than 17 which makes him automatically either evil, stupid or an unimportant talking-head. 2. He’s no girl which means that he can’t be moe and these Blu-rays don’t sell themselves after all. 3. He’s no generic J-Pop-idol and nobody will buy singles of a humming old man (since he can’t sing, he’d just hum the melody). But instead this series is stuck with Tsubasa being constantly in a bad mood and Hibiki being a complete failure except when she’s angry. So, seriously: Give Hibiki a training-arc…!

Symphogear 02 – The Fun Of Being A Superhero In Secret

Well, to say that I have a negative opinion of most series’ first episodes in this season would be an understatement, I guess, so I thought that I will also cover the second episodes of those series which actually improve on the things they did wrong in my opinion. There’s also the fact that a second episode helps deciding me as a reviewer what the series actually wants to do. Not every first episode is poignant enough to make that clear. Symphogear 02 definitely was a vast improvement over last week, I mean it was the worst episode I’ve seen and moved into the territory of being so bad that it’s good again. But watching the second episode it’s clear the series regain some of its senses after this sloppy mess which was the first episode.

Symphogear 01 – Singing Is An Act Of Violence

To continue with the trend that I have yet to see any series in this season I wouldn’t call crap, Symphogear is the really endearing story of cute girls becoming responsible for being pop-stars and kicking the sorry asses of a bland danger called ‘Noise’. It’s called Noise because the story’s about singing teenagers, get it? Noise, singing, beating the shit out of each other? “What a great idea!”, you might say at this point and yeah, I don’t know what the hell is wrong with you if you’re really saying that. It’s crap. Another series you need to stay the hell away from.
